Poetry by Cat McShane
You left me alone with my thoughts
And I'm drowning.
The words weigh me down
And pull me below the surface of you.
I kick and I scream
And I don't.
The waves feed off each other,
Growing in strength and number.
Streams of consciousness
Impel me to tumble further
Into the dark depths of the inexorable abyss.
The currents close in on me,
Crushing me in their fists.
The life that was left flows from me.
It drips, leaks, seeps from me,
Until that's all that's left,
A taste of what I once was.
I'm yours now and that's all I'll be,
Bitter tears torn out,
